Find your draw, one turn at a time

Two people can choose the same flavor and prefer a different draw. SHAKE gives you a physical adjustment at the base so you can explore that preference. Think of it as a small part of getting comfortable with the device, alongside choosing a flavor and learning the shake-before-use routine.

March 2026 is this article’s edition in our 2026 series, not an earlier publication date.

What are you adjusting?

Draw describes the feel of pulling air through the device. On SHAKE, you rotate the base to adjust the airflow. A more open setting and a more restricted setting can feel different even when you are using the same stick.

The base is not a temperature selector: SHAKE has no heating step. It is also not a flavor switch. Mint stays Mint when you turn the base; choosing another flavor means choosing another complete stick from the range.

Make the comparison easy to notice

Start with the instructed sequence and a setting you find comfortable. Make a small turn, take a normal draw according to the pack instructions, and pause before deciding whether to keep that setting. Avoid forcing a draw to make a particular position work.

Keep the comparison simple. Use the same stick and leave the rest of the routine unchanged. If you adjust the base, switch flavors, and alter how you draw all at once, it becomes difficult to know which change you actually liked.

Use your own words

You do not need technical tasting vocabulary. Try describing a setting as easier to draw, more restricted, comfortable, or less comfortable. Separately describe whether you enjoy the flavor. Keeping those observations separate helps when a flavor appeals to you but the first airflow setting does not.

Once you find a comfortable setting, leave it there for a moment. Notice how the draw feels before making another small turn. That familiar setting gives you a useful starting point when you return to the same stick.

Carry the method into your next flavor

Once the adjustment feels familiar, use the same approach with a second flavor. Begin with a comfortable draw, then decide whether the new flavor belongs in your next mix. This keeps your selection grounded in what you enjoy instead of what sounds most impressive on a label.
